| Surface-initiated polymerizations are of great interest as they enable the formation of grafted polymer layers and tailored composite materials. By applying the well established pulsed laser polymerization-size exclusion chromatography (PLP-SEC) technique, one can directly determine the propagation rate coefficients kp from the inflection points of the resulting SEC trace of the grafted polymer. The image shows the SEC trace from the PLP of styrene at 26°C and 5 Hz together with the proposed reaction mechanism. |
